Today’s Reading: Matthew 11 — “Blessed Are Those Who Are Not Offended”
“And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.” — Matthew 11:6 (NKJV)
When John the Baptist was imprisoned, confusion and doubt started to cloud his heart. He sent his disciples to ask Jesus, “Are You the One who is to come, or should we look for another?” (Matthew 11:3).
John had faithfully prepared the way for Jesus, yet now he was in chains, questioning the very One he proclaimed. Jesus didn’t rebuke him for doubting. Instead, He replied with evidence of His works — the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the gospel preached to them (Matthew 11:4–5).
Then Jesus added this powerful line:
“Blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.”
These words remind us that faith is not only believing when everything is clear, but trusting even when God’s ways confuse us. Sometimes we expect God to move in a certain way — to answer quickly, to bless immediately, to make life smooth — but He doesn’t always follow our expectations.
When that happens, offense tries to creep in. We start to question, “Lord, why me? Why now? Why this way?”
But Jesus says, “You are blessed when you choose not to be offended by how I work.”
God’s silence doesn’t mean He’s absent. His delay doesn’t mean denial. Every time we refuse to take offense and instead choose to trust, we step into deeper faith — the kind that believes His heart even when we can’t see His hand.
Reflection:
Don’t let disappointment or confusion turn into offense. Let your faith say, “Even when I don’t understand, I still trust You,
Prayer:
Lord, help me not to be offended by how You choose to move in my life. Teach me to see Your purpose beyond my pain and to trust Your plans even when they don’t align with mine. Strengthen my faith to believe that You are always working for my good. Amen.
