“The Torn Veil: Christ’s Sacrifice That Opened the Way”
Matthew 27 reveals the depth of Jesus’ suffering and the power of His love. When He yielded up His spirit, the temple veil was torn from top to bottom — a divine sign that access to God was now open for all who believe. This devotion reminds us to live with gratitude and reverence for the price He paid, walking daily in the freedom and grace that came through the cross.

Today's Reading:
📖 Scripture: Matthew 27:50–51 (NKJV)
“And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split.”
Observation:
Matthew 27 records the betrayal, trial, crucifixion, death, and burial of Jesus Christ. The chapter reveals the depth of human sin and the greatness of God’s love.
Judas’ remorse shows that guilt without repentance leads to destruction.
Pilate’s indecision reflects the danger of fearing man more than standing for truth.
The mocking of the soldiers and the crowd highlights humanity’s blindness to who Jesus truly was.
When Jesus died, the veil of the temple was torn, symbolizing that through His sacrifice, the separation between God and man was removed.
Even creation responded to the death of its Creator — the earth quaked, rocks split, and graves were opened.
Jesus’ death was not a defeat; it was the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan — the ultimate victory over sin and death.
Application:
Let us reflect on the price Jesus paid for our salvation. His death tore the veil — granting us direct access to God. We must not take that access lightly.
Let us live daily in gratitude and holiness, remembering that Jesus endured humiliation and pain so we could be free.
As His followers, may we also surrender our will completely to the Father, just as Jesus did, and be faithful witnesses of His love and grace.
Let us encourage one another to walk in reverence and thankfulness for the cross.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for the cross. Thank You for taking my place and bearing my sins so I could be reconciled to the Father. Help us walk in awe of Your sacrifice and use our lives to glorify You. May our hearts always remember the torn veil — the sign that we can freely come before You. Strengthen us to live as true disciples, walking in obedience, humility, and love. Amen.
