“Faith That Bears Fruit and Moves Mountains”
In Matthew 21:18–21, Jesus curses a fruitless fig tree and teaches His disciples about the power of unwavering faith. This passage reminds us that true faith isn’t just seen in appearance but in the fruit it bears — and that even the impossible becomes possible when we fully trust God.

📖 Scripture
“Now in the morning, as He returned to the city, He was hungry.
And seeing a fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, ‘Let no fruit grow on you ever again.’ Immediately the fig tree withered away.
And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, ‘How did the fig tree wither away so soon?’
So Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, “Be removed and be cast into the sea,” it will be done.’”
— Matthew 21:18–21 (NKJV)
Observation
Jesus used the fig tree to teach a powerful lesson about faith and fruitfulness. The fig tree looked healthy outwardly but had no fruit—symbolizing those who appear religious yet lack true spiritual life. When Jesus spoke, the tree withered instantly, showing His divine authority. He then taught His disciples that genuine faith—without doubt—can accomplish what seems impossible.
Application
This passage challenges me to examine my own life: am I bearing spiritual fruit, or just looking “good” on the outside? Faith that pleases God must be alive, active, and rooted in trust. I’m reminded that prayers spoken in faith, not in doubt, can move mountains—whether they’re challenges, fears, or impossible situations. God desires a heart that believes and bears fruit that glorifies Him.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, help me live a life that bears fruit worthy of Your name. Teach me to have faith that does not waver and to trust Your power in every situation. Remove any spiritual dryness or pretense from my life, and fill me with a faith that moves mountains and glorifies You. Amen.
